As an attempt to inform all of you as to what the School of Family Life really is, I will share with you what I shared with him via facebook message:
"Dear [BYU hater],
You probably don't know me, but I commented about the school of Family Life on Christine Clark's status.I believe you responded by saying that parenting worked just fine before BYU started offering classes on it.
~This is true, and regardless of BYU offering classes on parenting, parenting is becoming harder and harder with each generation, and as a result parents in the world as a whole are becoming more and more inadequate.
~The general authorities of the church have responded to this problem by giving the world 'The Family: A Proclamation to the World' which talks about the importance of not just parenting, but families and the value of life as a whole.
~At the end of this proclamation they challenged us with this charge: 'We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society'. The school of Family Life was formed in response to this call.
~With the increasing immorality and evil in this world, good parents are increasingly more important. We must stand for the family and it's impotance in society, not degrade it by making fun of any attempts to "maintain and stengthen the family as the fundamental unity of society" such as the school of family life.
~On a less important note, family life majors don't just graduate to go on and be mothers and do nothing great outside of the home. Many family life majors go to graduate school and become Marriage and Family Therapists or other similar professionals. Many people find themselves going to such family life majors for help when it seems like their life is falling apart. You may be grateful to a family life major one day.
~Yes, I am majoring in family life. Who better to inform you about what we do than someone who is in the program?
My Best Regards,
~Melodie Porter "
A few things I wanted to say but wouldn't have helped my cause:
- You better hope you marry a family life major!
- With your attitude towards family, you likely WILL be going to a counselr to save your ruined marriage!
- You think BYU students are all ignorant and yet your remark "parenting worked just fine before BYU started offering classes on it" was possibly one of the most ignorant remarks I have heard yet.
- Most BYU students aren't brainwashed to be ignorant followers. In fact, I think it's unconstitutional for the U.S. to ban gay marriage.
*sigh* ...now that I got that out I feel better.
In regards to my next blog, what would you readers like to hear about most? My honeymoon that ended with a rear-ending (car crash, that's not innuendo)? The history of my fish tank? My christmas in Mesa? The engagement time after Myles got back from Texas? There is so much I have skipped over I don't know where to start! Let me know.
